Garmin Launches the Edge 1040 Solar: World's First GPS Solar-Powered Cycling Computer

Garmin Malaysia announces a series of GPS bike computers which includes the Edge 1040 Solar. The device features a Power Glass solar charging lens, allowing cyclists to ride for up to 100 hours in battery conservation mode. The multi-band GNSS technology found in both the Edge 1040 Solar and non-solar models aids in GPS navigation in challenging surroundings.

Furthermore, the device features power guide where power objectives that are recommended make it easier to control efforts during a course. The device also has a cycling aptitude and course demands where it identifies the cyclist’s strengths and limitations, work on them and prepares for the needs of a given course.

The Garmin Edge 1040 Series helps cyclists improve their performance by providing information from Firstbeat Analytics such as VO2 max, recovery time, training load, training focus, and more to monitor how their body is responding to their training efforts. They’ll also receive daily exercise recommendations relating to the current training regime and VO2 max. The Garmin Edge 1040 allows cyclists to observe how their body is doing in various situations with heat and altitude acclimatization and receive in-ride reminders when it’s time to refuel or rehydrate.

Moreover, ClimbPro allows riders to monitor the remaining ascent and grade for each hill when following a course and analyse their performance on the climbs post-ride directly from the Edge 1040 Series or the Garmin Connect app. Whether cycling inside or outdoors, riders can instantly sync workouts from Garmin Connect or other training applications, including TrainingPeaks.

Garmin’s safety and smart features incident detection, assistance, and LiveTrack allow loved ones to follow a cyclist’s real-time location and view their entire pre-planned course to see where they’re headed, while group messaging and tracking allow cyclists to stay in touch when they become separated.

The device is compatible with the Varia series of cycling awareness devices for greater confidence when riding. With an active inReach membership, cyclists may monitor and respond to messages, exchange trip statistics, and trigger interactive SOS warnings with the Edge 1040 Series.

The Edge 1040 simply links with a Tacx indoor trainer, allowing riders to ride whenever they choose. When linked to sensors, riders may keep track of their sensors’ battery state through post-ride reports immediately on the Edge 1040 Solar and battery alarm messages between rides through the Garmin Connect smart device app. Riders will get pre-populated ride profiles based on their prior Edge settings, whilst new users will get the most popular setups from other users based on their sensors and ride types.

The Garmin Edge 1040 Series is currently available on Shopee, Lazada, AECO e-store, and all Garmin-approved dealers for RM3,450 for the non-solar version and RM3,699 for the Edge 1040 Solar version.

Pokdepinion: Something for all cyclists to consider. An all-in-one device for your biking adventures and training. Smart of them to design a solar-paneled one as Malaysia is sunny the majority of the time.
