Surprise: Meet Steam Deck OLED, With Updated Internals
Looks like Valve has just the answer to ASUS’s popular gaming handheld, the ROG Ally, when that console debuted with much more powerful hardware than what Steam Deck offers. While the company insists that a Deck 2 is not immediately in the cards, that doesn’t mean there won’t be small updates – and today that comes in the form of Steam Deck OLED.
Introducing Steam Deck OLED. Featuring an HDR OLED screen, longer battery life, and faster downloads. Available November 16th.

This update will see the 512GB version replaced and a new 1TB version, with the new 7.4-inch OLED panel with HDR support, a slightly updated 6nm APU (same Zen2+RDNA2 internally), faster LPDDR5-6400 RAM (as opposed to LPDDR5-5500), 20% larger battery that promises up to 12 hours battery life, and Wi-Fi 6E support. Notably, the new OLED panel will offer faster refresh rates too, at 90Hz, on top of higher brightness levels (600 nits SDR, 1000 nits HDR) and wider color gamut (110% DCI-P3).
The updated lineup will see the 256GB version continue to use the same hardware, which will soon serve as the entry-level model moving forward as Valve will be retiring the 64GB eMMC and the 512GB SSD (LCD) version from the market. They’ll continue to sell until the stock lasts.
For the US and Canada, Valve is offering a limited edition of the 1TB model with transparent chassis which the company says is “highly limited”. However, the company did note that if the responses are positive, they may consider expanding the availability of this design to more regions.
The Steam Deck OLED will be available in select regions starting November 16th, with the price of $549 for 512GB OLED and $649 for 1TB OLED – and while Malaysia isn’t officially in the availability list, you may soon see it popping up in various retailers here as imported units.
Pokdepinion: A nice surprise, and that OLED panel should be eye-popping.
