Acer officially announced the updated Swift X 16 model with completely different internals from its 2022 model. Gone is the all-Intel lineup with 12th Gen plus Arc A3 GPUs, and in comes AMD’s latest Ryzen 9 7940H processor, plus up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 at disposal for the maxed-out configuration. Aside from the compute part, the display can be optioned with the 16-inch, 16:10 3.2K (3200 x 2000) 120Hz OLED display with 100% DCI-P3 color gamut and 500 nits of brightness (certified for VESA DisplayHDR TrueBlack 500 standard).

The chassis now measures at 1.9kg and 17.9mm thick – and Acer touts the touchpad for this particular model is the largest among the brand’s portfolio with 33% more scrolling space (we assume it’s increased vertical height, given). Conspicuously, the new chassis has more resemblance to the brand’s gaming-centric Predator models than its outgoing model, with quad exhaust channels that even bests some of the gaming laptops of yesteryears.

This should explain the presence of much more potent hardware than its predecessor, with the Ryzen 9 7940H in particular rated for 45W across 8 cores, and NVIDIA’s RTX 4050 Laptop GPU. The redesigned cooling now gets 36% more intake capacity through larger fans and keyboard intakes, and even a Turbo mode that’s previously seen on its Predator lineup. Pairing with both silicon is up to 16GB of LPDDR5 and up to 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD, plus additional microSD card expansion slot available. Connectivity wise, it features Wi-Fi 6E, two USB-C ports, HDMI 2.1; Windows Hello comes included via fingerprint sensor and Wake on Voice command.

The updated Acer Swift X 16 will be rolling out starting from China in May, with EMEA regions following in June, while North America availability begins on July this year. No word on local availability just yet – so for now we’re looking at the price of $1249.99 (~RM5547) which should translate to RM6000-class laptop when it reaches here down the line.

Pokdepinion: The price-to-performance looks quite promising, it will be one to watch among this year’s releases.
