Aside from the ROG Ally X, ASUS is also bringing two new gaming laptops to the Malaysian market, which will be among the first laptops to be powered by AMD’s “Strix Point” Ryzen AI 300 series APUs. Notably, the TUF Gaming lineup now welcomes its new smallest member, the TUF Gaming A14; while the Zephyrus G16 now comes in Team Red flavor.
ROG Zephyrus G16 (GA605)
Starting off with the ROG laptop, the AMD-powered Zephyrus G16 (model code GA605) comes with AMD’s current-best Ryzen AI 300 series chip on offer, which is the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. This chip packs 4+8 cores (4x Zen5 + 8x Zen5c), with 24 threads in total, and is paired with either NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 or RTX 4070 (105W TGP) based on local configurations. Both offers 32GB of LPDDR5X-7500 RAM, though the SSD can now be optioned with up to 2TB onboard.
Other specs include: 16-inch 16:10 QHD+ OLED 240Hz panel with 100% DCI-P3 gamut coverage and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification, Wi-Fi 7 support, 90Wh battery, and the inclusion of USB4 and SD card reader (with SD Express 7.0 support). The laptop weighs 1.85kg and measures 14.9mm at its slimmest point.
TUF Gaming A14 (FA401)
Moving on to the TUF Gaming A14 – this is the first 14-inch laptop under the TUF Gaming lineup, and it’s very lightweight by gaming laptop’s standards, tipping the scales at just 1.46kg, while measuring 16.9mm thick. Under that weight and thickness houses an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor, as well as NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, with all the cooling capable of extracting 100W TGP out of the Team Green’s silicon.
Despite its compact size, ASUS has managed to cram two SSD slots onboard (with one 1TB SSD populated by default), so there’s at least some degree of upgradability to be had here. Unfortunately though, RAM isn’t one of those – you’ll have to settle for 16GB of soldered LPDDR5X-7500 RAM. LPCAMM2 modules can’t come soon enough! For its display, you get the same QHD+ resolution, though this is an IPS panel rated at 165Hz and a relatively pedestrian 100% sRGB color gamut.
Pricing
For pricing, the ROG Zephyrus G16 with RTX 4070 + 2TB SSD comes at the price of RM13,499, and is exclusively available in Eclipse Gray color. The RTX 4060 + 1TB SSD option comes available in both Eclipse Gray and Platinum White, costing RM11,499 each. For the TUF Gaming A14, the sole configuration available with RTX 4060, 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD will set you back for RM7,599. Pre-orders are now open until 31st July 2024, with pre-order gifts worth up to RM999.
