[CES 2023] New Acer Predator Gaming Laptops and Monitors Unveiled
If you’re looking for a new, larger gaming laptop, then look no further as the Acer Predator Helios 16 and 18 have been announced at CES 2023, alongside a couple of new Predator gaming monitors.
Acer Predator Helios 16 and 18
The Predator Helios laptops are designed for performance and will include the latest components from Intel and NVIDIA, including up to 32GBs of DDR5-4800 RAM and up to 2TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD in RAID 0. The components will be cooled by “dual custom-engineered fifth-gen AeroBlade 3D metal fans and vector heat pipes in the shape of rectangles for improved heat transfer,” according to Acer.
The Helios 16 will have three 2560 x 1,600 resolution display options with refresh rates of 165Hz or 240Hz, or a Mini LED panel with a 250Hz refresh rate, 100% P3 color gamut, and peak brightness over 1,000 nits. The 18-inch Helios has the same panel options, as well as an entry-level 1920 x 1200 resolution display at 165Hz.
The new Predator Helios laptops feature a mini-LED backlit keyboard with deep 1.8mm key travel and per-key lighting that uses less power while providing bright, uniform color. The laptops also have a customizable RGB light bar across the top of the back vents.
The Helios 16 is expected to be released in March starting at USD $1,650, while the Helios 18 is expected to be released in April 2023 with a starting price of USD $1,700. Both laptops will be available in Europe a month earlier than in the US.
Acer Predator X45 and X27U
The Predator X45 is a larger gaming monitor with a 45-inch OLED panel that has a UWQHD (3440 x 1440) resolution and a maximum refresh rate of 240 Hz. The panel has an 800R curvature, a typical brightness of 150 nits, and a peak HDR brightness of 1,000 nits.
It also has a 1,500,000:1 contrast ratio and a 0.01 ms pixel response time. The 10-bit panel covers 98.5% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. In terms of connections, the Predator X45 has two HDMI 2.0 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4 port, a USB-C port with 90W power delivery, and a USB 3.2 hub. It also has dual 5-watt speakers.
The Predator X27U is a smaller gaming monitor with a QHD (2560 x 1440) OLED panel and a 240Hz refresh rate. It has the same 1,500,000:1 contrast ratio, 150 nits (typical) / 1,000 nits (maximum) brightness, and 98.5% DCI-P3 coverage as the Predator X45. It also has the same port layout and dual 5-watt speakers. Both the Predator X45 and Predator X27U support AMD FreeSync Premium technology and have an integrated KVM switch for switching between multiple desktop or laptop PCs.
The Predator X45 will be available in the North American market in Q2 2023 for USD $1,699, and the Predator X27U will be available around the same time for USD $1,099. Acer will announce a more specific launch window in the coming months.
Pokdepinion: I was hoping to see a gigantic, TV-replacement gaming monitor but it’s still something. I already have my eyes focused on the Predator Helios 18 as I’m expecting it to perform as big as it looks.
