We often hear about gaming laptops and content creator laptops as if they are two distinct categories of laptops, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Today we will be taking a look at the MSI GP66 Leopard and GE66 Raider OLED, both laptops that straddle the line between gaming and content creation laptops with their high performance and stunning displays.

Sweet 165Hz QHD IPS-level or 4K 60Hz OLED displays!

MSI GP66 Leopard screen

A lot of gaming laptops in the market offer high refresh rate displays, but not that many offer 100% DCI-P3 panels. 100% DCI-P3 is a good 25% wider than the full sRGB gamut, meaning that the MSI GP66 Leopard and GE66 Raider laptops will serve up a much more vibrant experience, be it when you are editing your content or gaming. And that’s about where the similarities end between the two laptops we are talking about today.

MSI GE66 Raider OLED scenario

The MSI GP66 Leopard and GE66 Raider both come with 165Hz QHD IPS-level display options, which is a great match for the hardware under the hood. The high refresh rate coupled with the resolution will provide for an excellent gaming experience. If you want deep, true blacks and more vivid colors, then you must take a look at the 4K OLED panels that the GE66 Raider OLED has to offer. While it may have a lower 60Hz refresh rate, its DisplayHDR 500 support and 4K resolution will come in handy for a better experience when viewing or creating wide gamut content.

Alternatively, there’s also the MSI GP76 Leopard which offers a more expansive 17.3″ display running at up to 240Hz. This is a FHD panel with support for close to 100% of the sRGB gamut, but it should be great for fast-paced shooters where you might be more focused on landing your shots than enjoying the colors and visual fidelity that you get with the other laptops mentioned.

Powered by the latest 11th Gen Intel Core processors and GeForce RTX 30 series graphics!

MSI GP66 Leopard gaming (1)

Under the hood of the MSI GP66 Leopard and MSI GE66 Raider OLED are the latest 11th Gen Intel Core processors and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 series graphics. These are currently the fastest CPUs and GPUs you can get in the market, and they are definitely a great fit for a gaming machine or content creation beast. Why?

For starters, the 11th Gen Intel Core processors are definitely the fastest laptop processors you can get in the market. Based on the latest Willow Cove core architecture, you get up to eight really fast cores and sixteen processing threads with the latest Intel Core i9-11800H to handle all your workloads. The 11th Gen Intel Core processors also offer PCIe 4.0 support, which facilitate faster communication between the CPU and GPU, as well as enable 2X faster storage speeds with the latest PCIe 4.0 SSDs, which come standard with the MSI GP66 Leopard and MSI GE66 Raider OLED.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 series laptop Resizable BAR

Speaking of graphics, the GeForce RTX 30 series are able to take advantage of the PCIe 4.0 speeds that the 11th Gen Intel Core processors offer. With the resizable BAR feature, the CPU is able to access the entire GPU’s memory at once, improving performance. But that’s not all. The GeForce RTX 30 series pack the 2nd Gen RT cores, 3rd Gen Tensor cores and 2X the FP32 performance of its predecessors, promising excellent performance in all of the latest titles featuring raytracing and DLSS.

To ensure that you get an optimal experience in every application, the MSI laptops also feature Dynamic Boost 2.0 to allocate the power budget to the CPU and GPU intelligently to deliver maximum performance while you are gaming and creating.

Cooler Boost 5 for that boost of coolness!

MSI GP66 Leopard cooling

With all that powerful hardware under the hood, an exceptional cooling system is definitely necessary to deliver consistent performance over longer gaming sessions or content creation workflows. The MSI GP66 Leopard and MSI GE66 Raider OLED pack the latest Cooler Boost 5 cooling systems which pack six heatpipes, two fans and four fin arrays. The wide heatpipes efficiently wick the heat from the components to the four fin stacks, and the large fans’ high airflow push plenty of air through the fins to dissipate the heat quickly.

Should you get the MSI GP66 Leopard or the GE66 Raider OLED?

While both of the laptops share a lot of their specifications and features, I would say that the MSI GP66 Leopard is going to be the better option if your main focus is on a great gaming experience. With a QHD 165Hz IPS-level display, the MSI GP66 Leopard promises smoother and more responsive gaming visuals. It also packs a faster GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU.

If you intend on also doing some content creation on the side, the MSI GE66 Raider OLED might be the better choice with its sweet OLED display panel and longer battery life thanks to a much larger 99.9WHr battery, which is about as big a battery MSI could cram into the laptop before you start running into issues with airport security.
