HONOR Magic V2 Preorder Begins, Launching 25 January 2024
After many teasers and news, it is official – HONOR is launching its new Magic V2 foldable smartphone today, and announced general availability set for late January this year. For now, you have one week of preorder time to get your hands on the slimmest inward-folding foldable smartphone on the market.
The smartphone is quite the engineering marvel, especially given its size is in line with your typical candybar form factor smartphones. HONOR touts its weight as being lighter than even the flagships from Apple and Samsung, weighing 231g; but the best part of this smartphone is the thickness – or the lack of it – as it managed to cram all that hardware into just 9.9mm of profile. Open it up and the thickness is only 4.7mm, which the company is very proud to say is as thick as three credit cards stacked together.
Despite its thinness, the batteries are still a combined 5000mAh unit: the silicon-carbon material and new design managed to slim the cells down to just 2.72mm thick. Even then, it still has the 66W fast charging to top it off. This engineering of the chassis also requires a new hinge made of proprietary titanium alloy and a new nanocrystal glass – both help the smartphone achieve SGS 5 Star Drop Resistance Certification, which means 400,000 folds, and a survivable drop distance 10 times greater than standard glass.
On the display and camera department, the Magic V2 features 3840Hz PWM dimming on both the inner and outer display, which HONOR touts as the first in foldable; as for the cameras, you have the 50MP main sensor, another 50MP sensor for ultra-wide shots, and a 20MP sensor for telephoto. Over at the front, you have two 16MP sensors occupying both the outer and inner panels.
Elsewhere, the Magic V2 gets the slightly older, but still plenty fast Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, with 16GB RAM and 512GB internal storage as the sole configuration currently available in Malaysia. It costs RM6,999 – and you will have the choice of Black, Purple, and leather-like Black (PU) options available. It will be available in online and offline stores, as well as telco providers – those who preorder will be eligible for gifts worth up to RM3,247, including a 365-day screen protection plan.
But wait! There’s more. As a “one more thing”, HONOR also unveils the new Porsche Design HONOR Magic V2 RSR, featuring the famed German sports car manufacturer. This version provides a slightly different chassis design with a more sportscar-like look, but to get one, you must first be invited.
