The HONOR Magic7 Pro is set to make waves and since it marks a new generation of flagship devices, particularly for 2025 despite it launching within this year, many of you might be wondering if there’s anything new that makes it worthwhile or if it’s just a performance upgrade thanks to the new Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. As it turns out, there are a couple of features that make this an interesting device, and we got to test it out.
AI Deepfake Detection
I’m sure you’ve heard of cases where people are being scammed via calls, and you’d think that it might be easier to avoid this if it was a video call instead. Unfortunately, especially with the rise of generative AI, it’s getting easier to use deepfakes to impersonate friends, families, and even celebrities in order to scam the masses. This is where the AI Deepfake Detection comes into play.
It’s an on-device solution, a first of its kind for the brand, available in the HONOR Magic7 Pro designed to detect fraud and digitally-manipulated content. Here’s how it works; during a video call, the AI Deepfake Detection is tasked to scan frame-by-frame information, facial features like eye contact, lighting, image clarity, and video playback to “identify flaws that may be imperceptible to human eyes at first.” If visual anomalies are detected on the caller’s screen, the smartphone will flag a warning on-screen within three seconds to alert the user of possible scams.
During our demo session with the HONOR Magic7 Pro, we had a person appear on a video call normally and then again with a deepfake applied. For the former, the AI Deepfake Detection confirms that there is no risk of a face swap but for the latter, an alert appears like any other notification, except in red to give a sense of urgency. It doesn’t work instantaneously but it does work fast enough as it takes only a few seconds, which is needed as the feature needs a bit of time for frame-by-frame scanning. I sat through multiple attempts with different people of different ethnicities and it detected every single one with complete accuracy.
How to Enable It in the HONOR Magic7 Pro

This feature is available on the HONOR Magic7 Pro for free, no additional payments required. Furthermore, as it is an on-device solution, no data from this will be uploaded to the cloud so your privacy is assured.
Magic Portal 2.0
Magic Portal is one of my favorite features in the HONOR Magic6 Pro, and it’s the one AI feature I find most useful as it’s frequently usable for the masses as opposed to being a novelty that is only used a handful of times. It basically tries to understand your intent and guide you to relevant apps, essentially acting as a gateway between apps with a drag and drop approach. For example, you can highlight a picture from a browser and drag it out to share on social media, dragging a location straight to Waze for navigation, dragging a piece of text to search it up on Google, and more.
Now with Magic Portal 2.0 in the HONOR Magic7 Pro, users can circle objects to instantly search for text or specific parts of an image, and do pretty much the same thing before. This improves accuracy immensely and makes it easier to access relevant apps via Magic Portal. Furthermore, Magic Portal 2.0 now recognizes text in pictures, can be used to edit screenshots, have the ability to save screenshots in Gallery, and has a wider support of apps that it can be used for. Interestingly, the circling feature will not be limited to Magic Portal 2.0 as users can still choose to use it for Circle to Search by Google Gemini.

- Tap on Magic Portal

After enabling the feature, users can further tailor their experience by selecting “Drag app content” and selecting / deselecting the apps available for it. While having all the apps enabled would be useful, it can result in unnecessary clutter at times so you can either choose to maximize potential functionalities or only selecting the ones that are relevant to you for a cleaner look. This will make the HONOR Magic7 Pro a whole lot more convenient to use.
