HONOR presented its smartphones at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, including its HONOR Robot Phone, along with the newly-revealed HONOR Magic9 Pro Max (very creative naming, HONOR) making its first public appearance at the festival. This new model is set to receive development support from the German brand for its imaging hardware as well.

HONOR Magic9 Pro Max Revealed

Taking a similar approach of revealing smartphone during a third-party event, HONOR showcased the upcoming flagship that features a “moss green” back panel, with its camera module carrying the ARRI logo and a lens layout inspired by the design of one of ARRI’s cinema cameras. Needless to say the new phone also took some design inspirations from Cupertino, though it’s not the first time this happened.

HONOR says it adapted “selected elements of ARRI’s Image Science and professional cinema workflow” for use in a smartphone to give creators greater flexibility during filming while retaining creative control in post-production. Features like ARRI LogC3, ARRI Wide Gamut 3, and ARRI Looks has already appeared on the HONOR Robot Phone, so expect these to be carried over to the Magic9 Pro Max as well – and the company says it’ll debut in China later this month.

The company is already dropping teasers proper in a trailer on YouTube, and as expected, ARRI is heavily featured in its marketing. Expect more collaborative efforts from both when the smartphone launches in its home market, and we expect it to arrive in Malaysia relatively soon.

Pokdepinion: Chinese companies and their appetite to grab a filmmaking-adjacent brand to gain credentials. Classic.
