The Redmi Note 9S has just announced globally, with it coming to Malaysia officially on 27th March. The successor to the Redmi Note 8 takes a rather big leap forward, skipping all the way from a Snapdragon 665 to the Snapdragon 720G.

It’s essentially India’s Redmi Note 9 Pro for the global market. The specifications are pretty similar, including the camera and storage configurations. Overall it does seem like an interesting entry into the mid-range segment, and an excellent upgrade from the Redmi Note 8, all while maintaining an affordable price tag.

  • Snapdragon 720G, octa-core 2.3 GHz, 8nm
  • Up to 6GB RAM
  • 128GB UFS 2.1 storage (expandable via 512GB microSD)
  • 6.67″ FHD+ IPS LCD display
  • 48MP f/1.79 + 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide + 5MP f/2.4 macro with autofocus + 2MP depth sensor
  • 16MP f/2.48 selfie camera
  • 5020 mAh battery, 18W fast charging (22.5W fast charger in the box)
  • 4GB + 64GB: RM799
  • 6GB + 128GB: RM899

The Redmi Note 9S continues the Redmi Note series’ legacy with an IR blaster and a headphone jack, as Redmi has received feedback that fans want the stuff. I won’t argue about the IR blaster at all, as I absolutely love my Mi 9‘s IR blaster to control the air-conditioning.
