The newest Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 leak surfaced online courtesy of infamous leaker Evan Blass, known by his Twitter handle @Evleaks. This time, the leak looks like an official render of the two foldable devices so this may just be the final look that the Korean giant has settled on.
As you might be able to tell by now, Samsung has skipped a number and went from the previous Z Flip straight to the Z Flip 3. This most likely has to do with streamlining the naming convention to avoid confusion as it launched together with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3.
From what we can from the picture, it appears that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 has a similar look to its predecessors but has a slimmer camera bump in the rear. There doesn’t seem to be a silo for the S Pen so they may be using the same approach with the Galaxy S21 Ultra, having a protective case with a slot to store it.
The S Pen in the leak has Fold Edition written on it, so it may be different from previous S Pens, hopefully with air gesture support. Contrary to previous reports, it appears there there will be physical buttons as it comes with a power button which doubles as a fingerprint sensor.
As for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3, it has a two-tone look with dual cameras and a larger outer display compared to its predecessor. This will make the outer display more practical to use, especially if you plan on taking photos and videos when it comes to framing your shots. Both foldables are said to come with some form of water resistance, but no word on if it’s IP-certified or not.
For now, both foldables are expected to be officially unveiled at the next Galaxy Unpacked event which will take place either in August or September 2021. They’re also expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 888 SoC with 5G support. We will report more on this as soon as information becomes available so stay tuned.
Pokdepinion: I’m pretty much ready to upgrade my phone, I’m just not sure whether to go for the Fold or the Flip. The latter feels cool when answering calls but the former is more practical. Then again, the Flip would be more space-saving. Will need to see if there’s a big disparity in camera performance as that would be my ultimate deciding factor for me.
