Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 Chipset for Advanced Extended Reality Headsets

In a significant development for extended reality (XR) enthusiasts, Qualcomm has officially introduced the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset designed specifically for augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), and virtual reality (VR) headsets. This cutting-edge platform is set to be utilized by tech giants Samsung and Google in their upcoming headsets, promising an immersive experience.

Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2

The Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset brings impressive capabilities, supporting an impressive 4.3K resolution for each eye with a fluid 90 frames per second resolution. Compared to its predecessor, the XR2 Gen 2, the XR2+ Gen 2 boasts a 15% higher GPU and a 20% higher CPU maximum frequency, facilitating dynamic foveated rendering, space warp, and game super-resolution, even at 4K graphics.

One of the key highlights is the incorporation of on-device artificial intelligence (AI) that enables support for 12 or more concurrent cameras. This advancement enhances spatial interactions, covering aspects like head movement, controller input, facial expressions, depth estimation, and 3D reconstruction.

The Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform also ensures a seamless experience with features like 12 ms full-color video see-through. Additionally, these headsets are designed to operate on all wireless protocols, including Wi-Fi 6, 6E, and 7.
