The vivo Y31s has officially launched in Malaysia, and as the Chinese smartphone maker’s latest budget model, the headline naturally focuses on its battery capacity – all 6,500mAh of it, in fact. Its durability is another highlight, with IP68/IP69 ingress protection ratings and a whopping 3.5 meters of drop resistance, according to its claims.

The centerpiece of the vivo Y31s is its 6,500mAh BlueVolt battery, which vivo says is engineered for long-term capacity retention, on top of the long runtime it offers on a single charge (and 44W fast charging support). In particular, lifespan improvements involve “structural improvements to anode and cathode stability, low lithium consumption electrolyte that reduces degradation and the MMT (montmorillonite) process for improved heat dissipation and charging efficiency.”
Regarding durability, the vivo Y31s comes with IP68 and IP69 dust water resistance ratings, meaning it offers full protection against dust, along with resistance towards both liquid submersion and high-pressure water jets. In other words, a heavy rain is certainly not a problem for this budget smartphone, especially with a so-called “triple-layer water-resistant protection system” that further ensures proper internal sealing from water ingress.
The mostly-plastic chassis measures 8.39mm in thickness and weighs 209g, with a quad-curved back and matte metal-style frame – all told, the smartphone meets MIL-STD-810H military drop resistance standards, although the more impressive part, rather, is the capability of surviving drops up to 3.5 meters tall, with its “Guardian Glass” protecting the display from cracks. That’s about a full floor or two average humans, mind you.
The Y31s is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 (4nm octa-core, up to 2.2GHz), with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB of decently-fast UFS 3.1 storage. As for the display, you’re looking at a 6.72-inch 1080p 120Hz LCD panel with up to 1,050 nits of brightness and TUV Rheinland Low Blue Light certification. The dual-speaker system can boost volume up to 400% volume, while the cameras involve a 50MP rear sensor (with a secondary 0.08MP sensor), plus a 32MP one at the front.
Available in KL Midnight Purple and Glowing Black color options, the vivo Y31s is priced at RM1,199 for the 6+256GB option, or RM1,699 for the 8+256GB option.
