LG’s New OLED TV Can Display 4K 120Hz Content Wirelessly

Whether you see this tech from LG as a solution solving a problem or solution looking for a problem – it’s still a very impressive technology nonetheless, which has won them CES 2023’s Innovation Awards.

LG's New OLED TV Can Display 4K 120Hz Content Wirelessly

Leading display maker LG introduced its new 97-inch SIGNATURE OLED M series (M3), which is touted as the world’s first consumer TV with ‘Zero Connect’ technology capable of real-time video and audio transmission up to a pretty insane resolution of 4K 120Hz. We’re barely there even on wires!

While the conventional wisdom of connecting video outputs to TVs is to plug a cable such as HDMI, RCA component video or what-have-you, the OLED M3 throws that rulebook away and does it entirely without cables (except power, of course). Now, technically your cable still has to go somewhere – which is what LG calls a Zero Connect box where you can plug your display and audio I/O to, and the box will send video and audio signals to wherever the TV is placed. The benefit here, according to LG, is to clean up the clutter with less cables getting in the way of users.

Pokdepinion: Would be interesting to know which frequency band they’re using for video transmissions because that’s A LOT of data to pass through. Perhaps 60GHz band? Probably needs direct line-of-sight at that point…
