Smartphone makers are gradually taking a crack at mixed reality (MR) headsets since Apple first debuted its Vision Pro in 2023, with Samsung already working on its “Project Moohan” to follow soon. vivo already have its MR headset entry in the form of vivo Vision Discovery Edition, and you can now find it in select retailers nationwide.
vivo Vision Discovery Edition

vivo says the vivo Vision Discovery Edition was developed over the span of four years, and it’s the first Chinese-based smartphone maker to launch a product in this category. The headset weighs 398g, with a height of 83mm and thickness of 40mm, making it approximately 26% smaller than the industry average. Inside the headset is a pair of Micro-OLED displays with 3840 x 3552 resolution, at 4,032 pixels per inch – that’s 10 times over what you get in smartphone displays.
Like most smartphones, Qualcomm is also having its presence in the MR headset segment, with it Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 SoC powering the vivo Vision Discovery Edition. This chipset is claimed to offer up to 2.5x the GPU performance and 8x the AI performance of its predecessor (XR2 Gen 1), both important in making sure the device’s UI is properly responsive to real-life environments. On that note, it is running on vivo’s bespoke OriginOS Vision user interface, the basis of which is a successor to the existing Funtouch OS powering vivo smartphones outside of the Chinese market until today.
vivo announced that the vivo Vision Discovery Edition is now available for hands-on experience at selected vivo Concept Stores in Malaysia. No pricing or availability is given at this writing, but don’t expect it to be very cheap if Apple Vision Pro’s pricing is any indication.
Pokdepinion: I have doubts on whether MR headsets as a whole will become popular, to be honest.
