Roblox has launched a new game(-ish) called Family Zone, built directly into the Roblox platform designed to bring parents and children together through co-play while teaching real-world digital safety habits. Since it went live on 15 July, it has already accumulated nearly 7 million visits, “indicating a big interest in co-play,” the company says.

Family Zone operates on a straightforward premise: the most effective way for parents to understand Roblox is to experience it alongside their children. Rather than directing parents to read documentation or watch external guides, the game built an interactive environment where both generations can participate at the same time.

The experience includes co-play mini-activities that guide parents through navigating the platform with their kids. Alongside these, dedicated parent tutorials provide hands-on walkthroughs for setting up parental controls, including screen time management, spending limits, and content restrictions.

Safety education modules are also embedded within Family Zone, developed in collaboration with global safety experts, including Koko, Playerthree, and researchers at the Lab for Scalable Mental Health at Northwestern University. These modules focuses on issues like bullying resilience, scam prevention, and identifying and avoiding predatory behavior online. The company says the content is designed to open conversations between parents and children rather than lecture either party independently.

The company has framed Family Zone as a direct response to feedback from parents who find the platform difficult to navigate or understand. The platform has acknowledged that for many families, Roblox can feel opaque, with children deeply engaged in a space their parents have little visibility into.

Pokdepinion: Roblox built an entire game just to teach parents how to use Roblox, which is either a genius move or an admission that the platform has been a parenting headache for years.
