We’re less than a week away from saying goodbye to 2024 and hello to 2025, and this is the year where the entire gaming industry will be witnessing the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI (or GTA 6 for short), which is anticipated to be the biggest video game launch in history. While we’re patiently waiting for the release date, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick promises that it’ll be worth the wait.
GTA 6 Will Be “Extraordinary”
Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive (owners of Rockstar Games), spoke with content creator Conner Mather and has this to say for GTA 6:
I think it’ll be extraordinary and worth waiting for.

Lots to expect, then. Of course, the huge hype surrounding the next GTA title can be credited to the long-standing success of the Grand Theft Auto franchise as a whole, with GTA V selling over 200 million copies over the course of 11 years since its launch in 2013 and has seen releases in PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One, PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5. This figure makes the game the second best-selling video game in history, sitting just behind Minecraft.
Zelnick also hinted that there could be some features and content that will be a surprise to the gamers. “The biggest hits are always the ones that are unexpected. Everything that we do has to be new and different, not derivative,” he said, noting that developers over at Rockstar “are focused on what’s new that you haven’t even thought about.”

Still, Rockstar has yet to provide a hard release date at this moment – and that’s not even counting the PC releases, which won’t be part of the initial launch that will be available exclusively in ninth-generation consoles. In fact, even other game publishers are eager to know the release date just so they can avoid releasing their games at the same time, which gives you some idea of the sheer presence of this 27-year-old franchise.
Grand Theft Auto VI is set to revisit the Miami-inspired Vice City in the State of Leonida, which is modeled after the state of Florida in real-life United States; Vice City was the main city featured in the previous two games – GTA: Vice City and GTA: Vice City Stories, released in 2002 and 2006 respectively. The game will also feature a female protagonist (Lucia) for the first time, along with her Caucasian male partner whose name is yet to be officially revealed.
