It’s been a while since there was any new rumors for Sony’s next console – wait no more, Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming has obtained further insider information recently, with indications that Sony is likely to reveal the PS5 Pro in September this year.
Tom Henderson: PS5 Pro’s Announcement May Be Similar To PS4 Pro
Henderson cited his sources that games set to be released after September 15, 2024 are required to support PS5 Pro, though it is worth noting that this does not mean the upgraded PlayStation 5 console will be released on the day after. This suggests that the console remains on track for launch sometime later this year, which is further corroborated by documents dating back to mid-2023, which targeted the launch date on the “latter half of November 2024”.
Assuming the date is correct, Sony will announce the console first to build up its marketing efforts. For that, Henderson reports that it will “likely fall in line with the PlayStation 4 Pro marketing announcements”. For reference, PS4 Pro was announced in September 2016, and subsequently launched in November 10 on the same year.
It has been known that Sony will attend Tokyo Game Show (TGS) slated for this September, the first appearance from the console maker in five years. While no information indicate that Sony will reveal the console during the event, the timing of it makes it a reasonable possibility – Henderson thinks that Sony may even reveal the console beforehand, while focusing on the technical details on the PS5 Pro in the event instead.
Should that be the case, we may see teasers as early as August in the best-case scenario. Until then, take this with a small grain of salt, and perhaps keep your wallets closed for now. On the other side of the console market, Nintendo is also preparing a new console of its own to launch in the coming months.
