The PS5 Refresh Is Coming To Malaysia On February 20th

Announced last October, the updated Sony PS5 is coming to Malaysia very soon. The new “Slim” PS5 is physically smaller and lighter than its original counterparts and features a new 4-piece plate instead of the original 2-piece design to accommodate the now modular Blu-Ray disc module.

The refresh reduces the volume by more than 30% over the original model and slashes weight by 18% and 24% respectively. The internal storage also gets a small upgrade from the original 825GB to 1TB with the new lineup. Hardware-wise, both retain the same Zen 2 + RDNA2-based hardware with no changes in performance capabilities.

Sony has announced the pricing for both the new consoles and their accessories. Starting with the PS5 with Blu-Ray disc, the official MSRP is RM2,499, with the Digital Edition priced at RM2,069. Those buying Digital Edition will have the ability to add Blu-Ray capabilities in the future via a separate disc drive at the cost of RM529.

The refreshed model will come with an included horizontal stand, which no longer allows vertical installations. For that, Sony introduces a new vertical stand (compatible with all PS5 variants) available at RM149, while the new Deep Earth Collection – in Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue, and Sterling Silver – will start at RM259.

All upcoming PS5 models and associated accessories will be available via local retailers nationwide starting February 20th, 2024.
