We live in a world where internet has become such a huge part of our lives. Not only is it a place for us to dwell personally, but professionally as well. Businesses have taken advantage of the internet in order to reach out to more customers as well as to simplify their business operations.

However, the internet is no magical tool that will guarantee an increase in sales and profits. Many businesses have failed to utilize the internet via their own official websites as it doesn’t get noticed by the general public. It looks like Google is here for the rescue!

Google Launches ‘Test My Site’

Google Malaysia today announced Test My Site, an online resource that allows owners of micro, small and medium businesses (SMBs), marketers, and other non-technical folk who owns or creates business websites measure a site’s performance across many different devices ranging from mobile to desktop.

Based on Google’s own Pagespeed Insights, you don’t have to be tech-savvy to understand a website’s performance with Test My Site. Just key in the web address and you can see how a well a website scores. Users can also get a detailed report emailed to them so they have a good idea of what to do next and where to get help — all of which is completely free of charge.

The Test My Site detailed report grades sites based on the following criteria:

  • Mobile-friendliness: The quality of the experience visitors have when they are browsing a site on their phones. This is influenced by how small screen-friendly a site is and things like placement of important elements.
  • Mobile speed: How long it takes for a site to load on mobile devices. If customers are kept waiting for too long, they tend to quickly move on to the next site.
  • Desktop speed: How long it takes for a site to load on desktop computers. It’s not just the strength of your customers’ web connection that determines speed, but also the elements present on the site.

The internet has become much more accessible than ever in recent times, especially with a rampant increase in smartphone users over the years. Google Malaysia noted that the percentage of Malaysians using smartphone have increased from 35% in 2014 to 81% as of this year, based on the annual Consumer Barometer survey.

The internet has become a crucial factor for businesses to succeed, and it even allows micro and small businesses to think big and globalize easily since anyone in the world can access the web…unless you’re in North Korea or some other country that blocks the majority of the internet.

So if you’re looking for a way to improve on customer relations, or if you’re wondering why people keep going away after visiting your website with little to no interactions, why not take the time to analyze it with Google’s Test My Site tool? It’s free after all. To access it, click the link below here:
