HGST surprised Seagate with Ultrastar 10TB Helium-filled HDD to the market

HGST a division company of Western Digital announced that they are shipping the world’s first 10TB perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) hard disk drive (HDD). The HGST Ultrastar He10 provide highest capacity, lower power consumption per TB and the highest reliability rating of all HDDs on the market.

The Ultrastar He10 HDD is the third generation helium driver expected to enable video, photo, business and other cloud-based applications. It offers a 25% increase in capacity over the previous generation and uses 56% fewer watts per TB compare to traditional air-filled HDDs.

The Ultrastar He10 also offering 2.5 million mean-time-between failures rating as well as a five-year warranty, available to all enterprise customers as a bare drive, and will be in HGST’s Active Archive System for customers that require a petabyte-scale object storage system.

HGST continues to lead the industry in delivering the next highest capacity hard drive for enterprise applications, according to John Rydning, IDC’s research vice president. “HGST’s new Ultrastar 10TB He10 will help address the need for higher capacity, and higher density storage racks in enterprise data centers.


Pokdepinion: With 10TB helium-filled HDD, HGST has beat Seagate records which at 8TB, but the main question is will the HDD last longer with the current SSD price trend going to south day by day?
