The phenomenal rise in popularity of eSports is really something. The rising number of eSport fans and viewership of the tournaments has led companies to sponsor eSport teams to get brand recognition and publicity in the community.

HTC, not wanting to be left out, announced their entrance into the eSports arena in North America and Europe with sponsorships of three elite eSport teams: Cloud 9, Team Liquid and Team Solomid (TSM).

The sponsorships kicked off this weekend with Cloud 9 and Team Liquid playing in the first Counter Strike: Global Offensive tournament at the X Games Aspen, and all three teams participating in the season start of the North America League of Legends Championship Series (LCS).

“eSports has seen significant growth in the past few years and we see synergy between people who are passionate about this sport and our own customer base. It was an easy decision for us to sponsor these talented teams and individuals,” said Cher Wang, chairman, HTC.

Cloud 9, Team Liquid and TSM are some of the most storied and successful eSports teams in the world. Cloud 9 is one of the most successful North America-based gaming organizations with nearly 150,000 Twitter followers, TSM attracts six million unique Twitch viewers per month, and Team Liquid’s YouTube channel has been viewed 25 million times.

With eSports rapidly growing in popularity around the globe, achieving viewership levels on par with many traditional sports, these elite team sponsorships present a tremendous opportunity for HTC to connect with the gaming community and customers.

Some really good product placement there by team Liquid.
