Surface 2 Gets The Axe

“We are no longer manufacturing Surface 2; however, those still eager to buy Surface should visit Microsoft Retail Stores, MicrosoftStore.com, third-party retailers and resellers for the latest availability,” Microsoft said in a statement to The Verge.

To add more salt to the wound, Windows 10 is also not coming to the Windows RT tablets.

However in retrospect, it’s really hard for anyone to justify purchasing a Windows RT tablet. The Surface 2 cost quite a sum starting from RM1699. For that price you can get a full sized laptop running Windows 8.1. The only plus point about the Surface is the long battery life. However at the cost of the versatility of a true Windows platform, most are willing to trade battery life for the use traditional Windows software. Windows RT requires developers to make a special version just for the RT platform, and with the low numbers of devices running on Windows RT, that just wasn’t happening.

So it comes as no surprise to us that the end of the line is looming for Windows RT. It should never have existed in the first place and now hopefully developers can focus on making Windows 10 a real success.
