According to a tweet on the official PlayStation Twitter account, there will be more stock coming in before 2020 ends. They asked for gamers to stay in touch local retailers for availability.

They also mentioned that demand for the console was unprecedented and is their biggest console launch ever. Together with the lack of components and the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s hard for many people to get their hands on the next gen console. Apparently, Sony Interactive Entertainment has sold anywhere between 2.1 to 2.5 million consoles already.
While it’s hard to say exactly how many new units will be coming before 2020 ends, it’s still worth a shot if you plan on getting it soon. The staying in touch with local retailers part may be vague, but there’s nothing much they can do about it at the moment aside from getting as many units shipped out as possible.
