What? The PlayStation 5 is already coming? That sounds too good to be true…because it’s not. PS5 Hoax is circulating around like wildfire.

It has come to our attention that some news on the PlayStation 5 surfaced recently. Because of this, more and more “news outlets” started reporting on what the PS5 looks like.

We’re in the midst of another major hoax going viral on social media and we need to put an end to it. It’s time to stop the lies and show the masses what’s real and what’s fake about the PlayStation 5.

The PlayStation 5 That Surfaced on the Web is Fakeplaystation 5 ps5 fake

Apparently, “BBC News UK” broke the news that Sony has announce the imminent release of their next game console, the PlayStation 5. To make the PS5 announcement seem more legit, they even included a quote from someone who’s supposedly doing R&D work for Sony named “Ishigo Tamaguchi” that stated:

We are honored to be unveiling our latest projects. Members at Sony have worked tirelessly in producing cutting edge processing speed and graphics.

Now hold on a second there motherflubber. You’re telling me that Sony chose to suddenly announce their new console, in the middle of July, as a surprise of sorts? Given that it was from BBC News UK, I thought it was believable but something felt fishy. Why did they write everything on that Facebook post instead of writing it on their website, and who exactly is this Tamaguchi-san?

And that’s when it hit me…

BBC News UK has close to 6,000 likes on Facebook? That seems awfully low. Not only that, I did not receive a single word of a blockbuster announcement from Sony Interactive Entertainment. In fact, their most recent noteworthy announcement happened to be about PlayStation Experience SEA at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Even a quick search on Ishigo Tamaguchi yielded bad results.

Thus, we have surmised that this “announcement” is a hoax, and that this isn’t even the real BBC News UK. Sounds disappointing, I know, but here’s what’s real about the PS5.

What’s Real About the PS5?

Sites such as Tweaktown reported that PlayStation executive Shawn Layden confirmed that the PlayStation 5 is actually coming, during an interview with a German website.

Rumour has it that Sony might move away from the typical console release model and instead have regular hardware updates like smartphones. What happened to the PS4 with the release of the PS4 Pro was seen as a sign of that actually happening.

However, Layden has come out to dispel those rumours – telling tech website Golem that a PS5 “is coming”. However, he said it will “probably be some time” before a PlayStation 5 is actually released. The comments from Layden come soon after one industry expert claimed Sony were getting ready to release a PS5 as early as 2018.

What’s even more bizarre is that Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Patcher said that the PS5 Pro will be backwards compatible with both PS4 and PS4 Pro games, and it’ll be here in 2019. Patcher was recently interviewed by Gaming Bolt, where he said:

I really like Shawn (Layden) and I don’t think he is attempting to mislead anybody. The PlayStation 4 Pro is better [from a technical perspective] than the PS4, so I think that’s a half step towards the PlayStation 5. I think the PS5 will be another half step. So he is being honest when he said he is not doing a half step but the PlayStation 5…how much faster can it be?

It will surely support 4K. Will it support 240 frames per second? Great. Will it play games that were made for the PlayStation 4 PRO? That’s the question. I think it will. So I think they will build a console that will backwards compatible with the PS4 Pro. So I think it will be perceived by the consumers to be a half step and I think Shawn is telling the truth when he says it’s will be a full fledged console

Just keep in mind that the bit by the analyst is just information that has been circulating around the web and should not be taken as concrete fact until officially announced by Sony Interactive Entertainment themselves, which will surely be done so at an event of a grand scale.

What Can We Take From All of This?

playstation 5 ps5 fake

Look at all those poor souls tricked into fake news on the PlayStation 5.

Here’s what you can take from all of this. That BBC News UK is a fake BBC News page spreading false information on Facebook but this isn’t exactly uncommon. We’ve seen multiple Facebook pages and entities spreading false information in order to get viral and widespread attention of the masses.

Yes, the PlayStation 5 is expected to pop up in the future but it’s not happening so soon and if it does, we can expect a grand event for Sony to announce it. Whether it can support 4K @ 240FPS still remains to be seen as it sounds pretty ridiculous. After all, there are no 240Hz-capable TVs, and only a handful of 240Hz-capable eSports-centric LCD displays are on the market right now.

When it has been announced, you can expect reliable media outlets such as ourselves at Pokde.net to report it with absolute accuracy. Here’s what our editor-in-chief, Superdaddy, has to say about this issue:

If you know anyone who has been tricked with regards to the PlayStation 5 or simply not sure what’s going on with the PS5, please share this article to them. Together, let’s fight against the spread of false information on the internet/social media. You can make a difference.

Pokdepinion: This isn’t the first time that we’ve seen fake news going viral, and now the focus is back on the PS5. With the PS4’s sales still going strong, it would be awfully strange if it was true. Let’s stop the spread of false information together!
