Samsung has announced “AI-focused software updates” for select refrigerators and laundry appliances, with the new Tizen OS 10.0 expected to include expanded food recognition capabilities, upgraded Bixby functionality, and refreshed user interfaces, which the Korean electronics giant says “enhances [their] long-term value”.
New Tizen OS 10.0 Update For Samsung Appliances
The update expands “AI-powered refrigerator experiences” that Samsung first introduced to select Bespoke AI Refrigerator Family Hub models in the U.S. in May. It is now being extended to additional global markets, including 21.5-inch and 32-inch Family Hub refrigerators with built-in cameras and AI Vision released between 2021 and 2025, as well as select 9-inch Family Hub models released in 2025.
These models will receive an updated version of AI Vision built with Google Gemini, which Samsung says widens the range of fresh and packaged foods the system can recognize, including branded and region-specific items, which is intended to help users track food stored in the refrigerator. The update also adds screen-based features such as Now Brief and What’s for Today?, which provide daily information to help with meal planning.
Samsung is also extending Tizen OS 10.0 to select Bespoke AI Laundry Combo, Washer and Dryer models released in 2024 and 2025. In this case, the update improves Bixby’s voice recognition, allowing more natural interaction with the appliances. For instance, users can ask when their laundry will finish, and Bixby will respond with an estimated time; applicable models with 7-inch Smart Screens will also receive a refreshed UI aligned with Samsung’s “latest laundry experience,” along with an Easy Mode option that simplifies the UI for easy access.
The Tizen OS 10.0 update will roll out in phases starting September 2026, though Samsung says actual timing, supported features and availability will vary by product, model year and market.
