Sony has announced the ECM-W5 wireless microphone system, pairing two transmitters with one receiver and supports 32-bit float recording, 96 kHz High-Resolution Audio, and a line-of-sight transmission range of up to 500m.
Sony ECM-W5 Key Features
The ECM-W5 is built around 32-bit float recording at 48kHz, which allows creators to capture both quiet and loud sounds without constantly adjusting gain levels. This format reduces the risk of clipping, making it particularly useful in unpredictable recording environments such as live events or “run-and-gun” shoots.

Through the Multi Interface (MI) Shoe on compatible Sony cameras, 32-bit float audio is transmitted digitally and recorded directly with video in a single file, removing the need for an external recorder or a separate audio file to sync in post-production. The microphone supports 96kHz recording and includes a 3.5mm input for lavalier or external microphones, including the separately sold ECM-L1.

Each transmitter carries 64GB of built-in storage for backup recordings, holding up to 90 hours of audio at 32-bit float/48 kHz or up to 60 hours at 24-bit/96 kHz. The transmitters offer up to 11 hours of operating time and carry a dust and moisture-resistant design. Wireless transmission is designed to be approximately three times more stable than the ECM-W3, with reduced audio dropouts in congested radio-frequency environments. Low-latency transmission also makes the system suitable for live streaming applications.
Compatible Sony wireless headphones can be used for cable-free monitoring during recording, and certain compatible models can additionally function as wireless microphone inputs. The MI Shoe connection on compatible cameras also enables linked power control, so the receiver draws power from the camera directly.

The system supports up to four channels of in-camera audio recording by combining the supplied transmitters with the separately sold ECM-W5T wireless transmitter. Timecode functionality is included to simplify synchronization across multiple cameras and audio sources in post-production. The included USB Type-C adapter enables connection to smartphones and PCs that support USB Audio Class 2.0, and a transmitter can also connect directly over Bluetooth for wireless recording.
The Sony ECM-W5 wireless microphone system will be available in Malaysia from early December 2026. The full ECM-W5 kit (wireless microphone) is priced at RM1,499, while the ECM-W5R receiver is available separately at RM709 and the ECM-W5T transmitter at RM449.
Pokdepinion: Setting up production with this one should be quick and straightforward.
