Cadence has announced that California-based LiDAR company Aeva has adopted its Tensilica Vision DSP (digital signal processor) to support signal processing in its 4D LiDAR systems, targeting industrial robotics and automotive applications requiring real-time sensing and perception capabilities.

Cadence Powers Aeva 4D LiDAR Hardware

LiDAR technology is used in applications including robotics, autonomous vehicles and industrial automation, where high-resolution depth information is required for mapping, safety and navigation – it’s superior in high-glare or low-light conditions where traditional imaging hardware like camera sensors can easily fail. In Aeva’s case, its 4D LiDAR technology can detect velocity and position simultaneously to improve decision-making for the machine involved.

Cadence said the Tensilica Vision DSP architecture combines programmability and performance through a low-power design and support for customization using the Tensilica Instruction Extension (TIE) language. The Tensilica Vision DSP platform includes software libraries designed for neural networks, computer vision, simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM), radar and point cloud processing. The platform also supports the NeuroWeave SDK for running AI networks in LiDAR applications.

The Tensilica DSP lineup is being used across sectors including advanced driver assistance systems, robotics, audio processing and computer vision, supporting applications that require low-power and high-performance processing capabilities.

Pokdepinion: Would we see more LiDAR adoption in cars? Time will tell.
