Sony has a new pair of headphones introduced to the market, although this one is equal parts tech and fashion statement. Dubbed “1000X THE COLLEXION (pronounced ‘Collection’),” this new pair of cans is essentially “WH-1000XM6.5” with extra bits of engineering on top of its premium design spun off from the WH-1000XM6, developed to mark the 10th anniversary of the 1000X lineup.

The headphones feature a metal headband with a matte sandblasted finish and hand-polished detailing, alongside faux leather materials (paying homage to the original MDR-1000X released in 2016) on its earcups, as opposed to plastic on contemporary models. Do note that it lacks the foldable hinge feature that returned on the WH-1000XM6, so with it comes a new magnetic case with a dedicated hand carry bit for easy transport.
Notably, 1000X THE COLLEXION features slightly larger earcups and wider cushioned headband to better fit bigger ears, plus stretchable leather materials intended to distribute pressure more evenly to improve wear comfort. Inside, the headphones use a specially-developed 30mm driver unit derived from XM6 with soft-edge design to improve bass and ANC performance. The internal PCB is also redesigned with thicker copper substrate to improve sound detail and soundstage.
Like the XM6, Sony also collaborated with various mastering engineers to refine the tuning profile of the headphones. The model is the first Sony headphone to include DSEE Ultimate technology, which uses Edge-AI processing to upscale compressed digital audio files in real time. It also introduces expanded 360 Reality Audio Upmix support with dedicated Music, Cinema and Game modes.
For noise cancellation, the headphones use the same Multi-Noise Sensor technology and Adaptive NC Optimizer system found in the WH-1000XM6, with 12 microphones paired with QN3 Noise Cancelling Processor and V3 Integrated Processor for processing duties. All told, the headset can last 24 hours on a single charge with ANC on, or 32 hours without. That’s 20% less endurance than the regular XM6 (rated for 30 and 40 hours, respectively), though it’s plenty sufficient for several days of use, realistically speaking.
Sony Malaysia announced the 1000X THE COLLEXION is now available in Malaysia at a suggested retail price of RM2,799 (several hundred bucks more than the WH-1000XM6’s RM2,099 price tag, which just got a new Sandstone color option), available in Platinum and Black color options.
