ASUS Announces Worldwide Release of ROG Ally Handheld Gaming Device

Earlier this month, ASUS made waves in the gaming industry with the announcement of its ROG Ally handheld Windows gaming device. Even though we are yet to learn all the details about the device’s specs and capabilities, the announcement alone was enough to stir up excitement and anticipation among gaming enthusiasts worldwide.

ASUS has successfully kept the hype train running by revealing that the Ally will see a worldwide release and that this release could happen sooner than expected. However, apart from this announcement, there is still little information about the device’s specs to go by.

As early reports and previews show, the ROG Ally comes equipped with a 7-inch, 1080p, 120Hz display. Under the hood is some sort of custom AMD Zen4 and RDNA3 CPU + GPU solution, with something potentially similar to the Ryzen 7040U. According to Linus from Linus Tech Tips, the custom silicon inside the Ally can deliver up to twice the performance of the Valve Steam Deck at the same 35W power envelope and should be able to produce 50% better frame rates in 15W power mode.

Weighing in at 608g and measuring 28.0 x 11.3 x 3.9cm, the ROG Ally is lighter and more compact than the Valve Steam Deck. Running Windows 11 with some custom ASUS software overlays on top, the device has already attracted much attention for its specs, design, and features.

The most crucial factor for the Ally’s success is arguably its price, and with the announcement of its worldwide release, all eyes are on ASUS to see how it fares in this highly competitive market. With Valve finally having a steady supply of its highly competitive Steam Deck with a starting MSRP of just $399, the pressure is on ASUS to make sure the ROG Ally is priced competitively.
