Previously, rumors suggested that AMD may bring the Ryzen 9000X3D series as soon as this September – however, new details suggests that is no longer the case, and we’ll be seeing these new chips at CES 2025, alongside new mid-range B850 / B840 motherboards.
Ryzen 9000X3D Has To Wait
The first part of the information comes from leaker HXL (@9550pro) and @1usmus on X (Twitter) and Wccftech’s Hassan Mujtaba, as all three sources seems to agree that the 3D V-Cache versions of these Zen 5 desktop processors will only launch at CES 2025, which is set to be held in January 7-10, 2025. Of course, AMD never confirmed the launch date for this lineup – so depending on your views, you might not count it as a delay.
Still, AMD promises there will be “really cool updates” for this lineup, and reports have claimed that overclocking will be returning in full capacity for these processors, which had limited overclocking capability due to sensitive cache parts. A total of three models are expected, which will include 16-, 12-, and 8-core parts.
B850 & B840 Motherboards
The second part addresses the mid-range 800 series motherboards, and that includes the mainstream B850 and the newly-introduced budget B840 series chipset. This information comes from ComputerBase, who quoted various motherboard makers on the show floor that the new mid-range lineup will debut as soon as CES 2025.
The B850 will be the direct successor to the popular B650 series, which likely retains some level of creature comforts while able to power most Ryzen CPUs with relative ease (as Ryzen CPUs don’t draw as much power as Intel’s counterparts). The new addition, in the form of B840 series, will serve the budget and commercial segment – however, this means you lose both PCIe 4.0, overclocking support, and some I/O variety.
Pokdepinion: Ryzen 9000 hasn’t fared as well as expected, so let’s hope the X3D lineup will do better.
