This GIGABYTE RTX 4060 GPU Features Three Fans, Albeit Only Half As Tall
Videocardz has revealed a yet-to-be-released version of GIGABYTE’s RTX 4060 GPU which, interestingly, comes in a half-height form factor. Also worth noting – GIGABYTE’s RTX 4060 lineup so far consists of all triple-fan models with a single exception, featuring dual-fan layout instead.
Compact versions of mid-range GPUs such as RTX 4060 often comes in single-fan sizes, which in most cases offer better cooling (as larger fans require less fan speed to deliver the same cooling capacity, creating less noise). It turns out this is the first half-height design coming from NVIDIA’s RTX 40 family, though the AIB maker do have low-profile designs like this before, which includes the GTX 1650 and AMD Radeon RX 6400.
As for why the half-height treatment is given to a fairly mid-range card (the other two models are considered low-end), the safe assumption would be down to the GPU’s extremely low TDP in this class of GPUs. It only consumes 115 watts (RTX 3060 is 170W, whereas RTX 2060 is 160W), making it suitable for low-profile applications where cooling isn’t of utmost concern. Despite that, it retains all of its display outputs – with 2x DP + 2x HDMI layout, albeit one of the DisplayPort is stacked on top in order to fit the limited space available.
Low-profile designs like this one often finds itself in many SFF (small form factor) builds, or even HTPC (home theater PCs) – the latter of which is responsible for video transcoding on-the-fly to enable streaming across devices through something like Plex servers.
Pokdepinion: A very unique design indeed – although this is mainly designed for different purposes than your gaming PC usually requires.
