NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Now Comes With New Die, 15W Less Power

The entry level RTX GPU gets a mid-cycle refresh – specs remain the same, with less TDP.

The original RTX 3050 GPU comes with cut-down GA106 die, unlike its laptop counterpart which receives a physically smaller GA107 die. The GA106 variant used in RTX 3050s contains 2560 cores from the 3840 contained in a fully-binned die. NVIDIA has since released an OEM versions of 3050s for prebuilts, which uses a slightly further cut-down GA107 die accounting for 2304 cores.

Now, a third variant is seen which is functionally identical to its laptop counterpart – GA107, 2560 cores and 115W TDP (the original GA106 variant consumes 130W). MSI is seen first with this die featured with its RTX 3050 Ventus 2X “OCV1” model and with all its specs identical to the original “OC” model, the only difference is the reduced power consumption and subsequently requiring only a single PCIe 6-pin instead of 8-pin connector.

Pokdepinion: That’s quite some power savings just from using a different die.
