MSI Issues BIOS Updates To Motherboards Affected By “UNSUPPORTED_PROCESSOR” Errors
After some weeks since a subset of MSI’s Intel motherboards has experienced Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) due to certain Windows Updates (KB5029351 being one of them), the motherboard vendor today is issuing new BIOS updates to resolve the issue.
For a while, MSI recommends users to simply wait for the problematic update to revert itself (as part of Windows’ failsafe mechanisms), or flash an older version of BIOS manually while they wait for fixes. The new update, currently issued to 9 models (Z790 and Z690), features a microcode update on Intel CPUs relating to “the firmware setting of the Intel Hybrid Architecture”. The update will be compatible with Intel 13th Gen CPUs and “newer ones”, which we know by now is the 14th Gen “Raptor Lake Refresh” models.
The BSOD, according to MSI, only affected 13th Gen Core i9 systems, when paired with the three specific Windows Updates as denoted in this chart:
Affected users can download and apply the relevant BIOS updates to their respective motherboard models by clicking the link here. The company noted that more will come for the rest of 600 and 700 series motherboards, with the next batch of updates arriving next week; the rollout should be complete by the end of September.
Pokdepinion: If you happen to have any combination of the affected hardware above, do update your BIOS as soon as possible.
