Meet the ASUS Cobble SSD Enclosure, which features a cobblestone-inspired design, tool-less installation, and IP55 water and dust resistance. The enclosure will be available in Malaysia by the end of February, according to the press release – though pricing is not announced yet.

The enclosure supports M.2 NVMe PCIe and SATA SSDs and features a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C interface for data transfer speeds of up to 10Gbps (6Gbps in the case of SATA drives); internally, there’s the Q-Latch found on many ASUS motherboards today, along with a screwless lock cover that allows for tool-less installation. It also support three SSD form factors: the most common M.2 2280, along with M.2 2260 and M.2 2242. Maximum capacity supported is listed as 4TB.
It is available in gray and black with a scratch-resistant coating that protects the device from “minor impacts”, and its speckle-painting techniques “enabled designers to incorporate organic textures and colors into the design.” The aluminum alloy construction and built-in thermal pad should help guide the heat away from the drive for better sustained performance.
