RHB Banking Group has introduced Sound Box Plus, a device that features integrated multi-payment acceptance designed to help merchants manage transactions across channels while supporting business growth in Malaysia’s shifting payment landscape.

RHB Sound Box Plus Supports DuitNow QR & Card Payments In One Device

Sound Box Plus supports DuitNow QR payments alongside debit and credit card transactions within a single device – it is equipped with Near Field Communication (NFC), built-in SIM connectivity, and real-time voice payment alerts, allowing merchants to accept payments across multiple channels without relying on separate devices. The device follows RHB’s earlier Sound Box offerings, including the Static and Dynamic DNQR Sound Box solutions.

RHB positions Sound Box Plus as an alternative to conventional card terminals, citing lower costs while retaining broad payment acceptance capabilities. Nurjesmi Mohd Nashir, Managing Director of Group Wholesale Banking at RHB Bank Berhad, said the device is intended to help merchants manage payment acceptance across channels while addressing security and operational efficiency as transaction volumes increase.

The device provides real-time voice alert notifications confirming successful transactions, which RHB states can help merchants reduce disputes over fraudulent payment claims. Sound Box Plus does not require printed receipts, a feature RHB frames as supporting more sustainable, digital-first business operations; the company also states the device is designed to maintain consistent payment acceptance during periods of high transaction volume.

RHB says the device is aimed at merchants with card transaction values below RM250, in line with NFC tap payment limits; DuitNow QR transaction limits remain subject to the thresholds set by individual users’ online banking accounts.

Pokdepinion: This reflects a broader trend among Malaysian banks toward consolidating payment tools into single devices, though its actual cost benefit to merchants remains to be seen.
