CelcomDigi has accepted the award of new spectrum frequency bands from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), securing 2x20MHz in the 2600MHz band and 2x5MHz in the 900MHz band.
The spectrum acquisition follows an Application Information Package issued by MCMC on 14 August 2026, with the full price component of RM381.75 million paid by its wholly owned subsidiary CelcomDigi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (CDTel) on 15 October 2026.
CelcomDigi Gets New Spectrum Bands
The 2600MHz spectrum assignment carries a duration of four years, while the 900MHz assignment runs for five years. Together, the two bands extend CelcomDigi’s portfolio across high, mid, and low frequency ranges, set to “enhance network capacity and service quality to support growing customer demand for quality and reliability.”
The 2600MHz assignment specifically enables a contiguous 2x40MHz spectrum holding in that band, which is a significant consolidation that improves the efficiency of network deployment. The addition of 900MHz band strengthens the operator’s lower-band position, which is important for wider and deeper geographic coverage, particularly in rural and indoor environments (where low-frequency radio waves can better penetrate walls and terrain).
“The assignment affirms [CelcomDigi’s] commitment to infrastructure investments to meet rising connectivity and digitalization needs in Malaysia. The Company thanks the Government and MCMC for their support and trust on the assignments.”
Pokdepinion: Hopefully that translates to less signal dropouts.
