CelcomDigi is stepping up its monsoon preparedness efforts this year through formal partnerships with the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) and Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC), targeting flood-prone communities across six states in Malaysia.

The program is expected to benefit more than 3,400 households, with on-ground support capacity for approximately 42,000 people across Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Johor, Pahang, and Sabah. CelcomDigi has provided MRA with 4WD vehicles, rescue boats, mobile charging stations, water and jet pumps, generators, and volunteers to support relief operations in these areas.

CelcomDigi Gears Up For Monsoon Relief Efforts

As part of its monsoon preparedness plan, 15 temporary evacuation centers (Pusat Pemindahan Sementara, PPS) in high-risk areas will be equipped with Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) units. These units are designed to help displaced families stay in contact with relatives and access critical information or communication services during emergencies.

CelcomDigi is also elevating key network structures in flood-prone areas to better protect radio and electronic equipment from water damage. Round-the-clock standby operations teams will be maintained to deploy power generators and additional resources to affected sites, helping to minimize service disruptions during flood events. The telco is also working with the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) and other relevant authorities to disseminate timely alerts and information to communities in high-risk areas ahead of and during flood events.

Beyond its operational response, CelcomDigi is encouraging Malaysians in flood-prone areas to take personal preparedness steps before the monsoon season peaks. The company has released a Flood Preparedness Kit containing practical guidance and essential information to help people respond effectively during flood-related emergencies. The kit is available in both English and Bahasa Malaysia, and can be downloaded via the CelcomDigi App and its social media platforms.

Pokdepinion: Good to see a telco actually showing up when the floods do, and not just when it is time to renew your plan.
