ShopeePay has launched Travel eSIMs directly within its app, giving Malaysian travelers a quick and affordable way to stay connected overseas. The ShopeePay Travel eSIM is now available for destinations including Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan, China, and Singapore, with plans starting from as low as RM3.50 and usage periods of up to 31 days.
Shopee Launches ShopeePay Travel eSIM
As with virtually all eSIM implementations, the entire purchase and activation process takes place inside the relevant app. In this case, all you need is the ShopeePay app, available on iOS and Android. (If you need to check whether your phone supports eSIM – you can dial *#06# through the dialer app and check if an EID number is present. If this is the case, your phone supports eSIM.)
Start by tapping “View All” or navigating to “Bills & Payment” on the homepage, then selecting “eSIM” – from there, users pick their destination, choose a data package (in GB) and the number of travel days, then confirm the purchase. Activation is handled through the “History” section, where users can tap “Activate eSIM Now” and choose from three methods: direct activation, QR code, or manual setup. More FAQ can be found here.
The ShopeePay Travel eSIM covers six destinations at launch: Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan, China, and Singapore. Plans are flexible, catering to both quick weekend getaways and longer trips of up to a month, with pricing starting at RM3.50 – very cheap, in other words. Shopee notes that aside from the new eSIM service, users can also book flights from major airlines, arrange hotel stays at destinations like Tokyo, Beijing, and Jakarta, and purchase travel insurance, all within the same app.
