The folks at U Mobile has today announced that they’ve successfully completed a multi-party roaming video conference call over 5G standalone (5G SA) technology with Singapore’s StarHub.

Both telcos managed to achieve the feat by organizing a 5G video conference among four roaming users, where two were using U Mobile SIM cards in Singapore while the other two with StarHub SIM cards in Malaysia.

Done with 5G-capable smartphones, they’ve achieved download speeds of up to 1.3Gbps and a latency of under 5ms on average, which is pretty good.

In the test in Singapore, the tests were done on trial 3.5GHz spectrum granted by the Infocomm Media Development Authority while in Malaysia, tests were done using 100MHz C-band spectrum through Apparatus Assignment by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Both companies will continue to collaborate in establishing the right network configuration and settings for customers to enjoy the best 5G experience, when 5G rolls out commercially in both countries of course.

Pokdepinion: With speeds and a latency like that, it’s definitely something that users would appreciate. Hopefully we’ll hear more news about it sooner rather than later.
