U Mobile has launched a new 5G home broadband plan called ULTRA Home 5G Pro, which offers speeds of up to 2Gbps. The plan introduces three capabilities the company describes as firsts in Malaysia: 8×8 MIMO 5G-Advanced (5G-A) broadband, network-based gaming traffic acceleration, and a bundled Huawei H168 Wi-Fi 7 5G-A router.

Available in two packages, both plans come with a 2,000GB monthly data quota, which U Mobile says is aimed at households seeking higher speeds, more responsive gaming and stronger connectivity without requiring fixed fiber installation.
The telco’s claim of doubling performance comes down to its 8×8 MIMO 5G-A technology, which allows the router to receive more simultaneous data streams from U Mobile’s ULTRA5G network. Compared to conventional 4×4 MIMO setups, U Mobile said this configuration delivers speed gains of between 20% and 100%, along with greater capacity when multiple devices are connected at once.
For gaming, there’s a dedicated packet acceleration feature dubbed “AI-Powered Game Turbo”, which identifies and optimizes gaming traffic in real time to reduce latency. Given that it works on the network-level, you don’t strictly require gaming routers for this, and it’ll work on any PC, console and mobile games, on all devices. Subscribers will get a U Mobile-branded Huawei H168 5G-A Wi-Fi 7 router as part of the plan, which U Mobile describes as a first in Malaysia. The router is designed to work with U Mobile’s 8×8 MIMO 5G-A network and supports Wi-Fi 7 Multi-Link Operation (MLO), allowing devices to use multiple Wi-Fi connections/bands simultaneously for a combination of performance and operating range for supported devices.
The ULTRA Home 5G Pro plan is currently available in Peninsular Malaysia only (availability in East Malaysia will be announced at a later date), with two plans: the first one, at RM98/month, offers all the features mentioned in this article, while the second one at RM128/month adds a sooka Premium subscription (worth RM80.10) on top of that.
Pokdepinion: I imagine this is a great deal provided you don’t hit the 2TB quota – which is quite difficult to reach anyway even when you’re downloading your entire Steam library.
