As part of the company’s plan to strengthen their super app, AirAsia Chat has been added to the app, allowing you to communicate with other AirAsia app users in real time, connect with like-minded communities, and discover interesting places to travel and eat.

The AirAsia Chat feature includes community chat rooms based on specific topics, and there’s also a dedicated channel for the latest promotions and announcements by the company. Some of the more notable community chat rooms include Kuala Lumpur Travelers. More chat rooms and channels are expected to be available as more users join in.

Private messaging will also be available as you can search for other users and sync your contacts with the app. Users can even chat with other AirAsia passengers regardless of whether they are on air or still on the ground, but the ones on flight will have to be on AirAsia Wi-Fi-enabled flights.

Like other similar apps, you can set up your own personal profile complete with photos, and there’s also the option of playing free games which can earn you free BIG points, and these can be spent on services within the app itself. For now, there might not be much going on with the new feature but it will be expanded as time goes by. It appears to be more of a miniature social media feature within the app rather than a simple messaging feature, but we aren’t sure how secure it is at this point in time.

Pokdepinion: This is certainly one way to get more people to use the app but it’s gonna be tough to get people to move from WhatsApp or Telegram.
