Per WABetaInfo – WhatsApp’s web client (web.whatsapp.com) is currently testing a new feature for its beta testers. It involves an updated sidebar layout that adds chat filters, which can sort the chats into unread, contacts, or group chats.

Currently, the web client only has a single filter that reveals any unread messages, which is hidden in a rather obscure button next to the search box. Now, the filters will occupy the entire row below the search box with text descriptions, which should make it plenty more accessible for most users. (I for one didn’t know the unread filter even existed before this.)

The filter options are fairly self-explanatory, with the ‘Unread’ inheriting from existing features. Meanwhile, ‘Contacts’ will list out any conversations you made with as long as you have their numbers saved in the phone; meanwhile, ‘Groups’ lists all the group chats in one place.

The feature is currently rolling out for beta testers, however, no timeline was given for the official rollout. That said, expect these features to roll out fairly soon as it is commencing the final phase of testing.

Pokdepinion: I can see this being very useful for people with many contacts.
