Zenless Zone Zero is getting its version 2.2 update this September 4, with a rather familiar-sounding title “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night” – the update introduces the Defense Force’s Obol Squad, with new agents Seed and Orphie & Magus, who continue the investigation into Exaltist remnants and confront new threats emerging in Waifei Peninsula.

The Obol Squad, commanded by Colonel Isolde under Major General Lorenz, plays a central role in shaping the conflict. The storyline expands on the faction’s history and explores Seed’s background while addressing long-standing tensions within New Eridu.

Several new S-Rank characters are introduced in this update: the first is Electric Attack Agent, Seed, who utilizes the Seed Sr. mecha to provide heavy firepower and improve team synergy with other Attack agents; Fire Attach Agent Orphie & Magus specializes in coordinated combat with laser-based skills that strengthen allies through the Zeroed In state. S-Rank Bangboo Mercury is also equipped with a tank for battlefield support. Agents like Trigger and Evelyn are also returning for this update, while Soldier 0 – Anby will return in a future update.

Version 2.2 also adds new gameplay events. Band of Brave Bangboo introduces tower defense mechanics with new maps, enemies, and environmental conditions, rewarding players with the A-Rank Excaliboo companion. Rhythm Rave offers rhythm-based challenges with additional in-game rewards. Additional improvements in this update includes the ability for players to choose between Belle or Wise before starting companion events such as Quality Time.
