These days, you probably leave your phone on a surface within your hand’s reach without much thoughts. But just like humans, smartphones needs a proper sleep too, IKEA suggests – at least that’s their idea behind the new “Phone Sleep Collection”, currently only sold in UAE (United Arab Emirates), which consists of a miniaturized bed for your smartphone to rest on.
IKEA Has A Bed For Smartphones
While this idea sounds rather amusing on paper, there’s a good reason behind it: the Swedish furniture giant’s Complete Sleep campaign aims to tackle people’s pre-sleep habits, often involving many minutes of phone scrolling. So, the Phone Sleep Collection gamifies this: put the phone to bed, and you get rewards in the form of vouchers in return.
Specifically, the bed features NFC inside which tracks the scroll-free sleep time via the IKEA App. When a user places the phone on the bed, the app will open automatically and records the time the phone is “sleeping” (the data can be viewed later, too). Once the user achieve a 7-day streak with 7 hours without touching the smartphone, they can claim vouchers worth 100 Dirhams (~RM115).

Honestly, quite the genius idea from the Swedish company, we think – IKEA’s UAE news release points out that this initiative “highlights how a small but mindful ritual of tucking your phone into its own bed can help create better routines, improve sleep quality, and support better mental clarity throughout the day.” Unfortunately though, this is limited to UAE right now, although it wouldn’t hurt to have this released globally at some point.
Pokdepinion: Free vouchers is certainly a method enticing enough for people to put down their phones.
