ASUS ROG Ally 2 Coming Later This Year, According To ASUS India VP
Earlier this month it became known that MSI is already planning on the second iteration of its newly-announced gaming handheld, the MSI CLAW. It turns out that ASUS isn’t sitting still either, according to the statements given by the VP of ASUS India, Arnold Su.
In an interview with Indian news outlet Techlusive, Su said: “We most likely will launch a second generation [handheld gaming console] this year. We will still keep the Windows features, but we will focus more on gaming.” The handheld has thus far accumulated 70,000 – 80,000 units sold since the launch last year, with most of them being early adopters, he continued.
Now, what kind of hardware would the next ROG Ally feature? It’s probably not far off to say that a hypothetical AMD Ryzen Z2 series should be the most likely option. Since the Ryzen Z1 is already largely based on its laptop chips, one can assume that the Ryzen Z2 is going to be Zen 5-based, like the upcoming 12-core “Strix Point” lineup.
It is rumored that the Zen 5 lineup will feature more cores, including both the full-size Zen 5 core and the smaller (but functionally similar) Zen 5c core; on the graphics side, one can expect more Compute Units (CUs) on top of the updated RDNA3.5 architecture. Another possibility is the Zen 5 “Kraken Point”, which is said to be the cut-down, 8-core silicon sitting below the Zen 5 “Strix Point” lineup.

Pokdepinion: Assuming this statement is correct, that means AMD is going to launch Zen 5 laptop chips before 2025 – which I don’t think is likely. I’m gonna guess early 2025 instead.
