You’ve heard of the “new car smell”, now how about “new laptop smell”? That’s what ASUS is set out to do with its new laptop called adol Book 14 Air Fragrance Edition (a豆14 Air香氛版) exclusively released in China. It currently sells for RMB 6,999, or roughly RM4,400 under the pre-order period (though the launch price indicates RMB 8,199, or approximately RM5,170).

Fragrance-infused ASUS Laptop

This laptop was the result of collaboration between ASUS China and Anna Sui, a New York-based fashion company from its namesake, which produces fragrance products as well. On paper, this is essentially a Vivobook S 14 OLED with a Chinese-specific branding (a common occurrence), with an AMD Ryzen 9 8945H processor paired with 32GB of RAM and 1TB SSD storage. Unlike the global model, however, it does come with a 2.8K OLED display with 100% DCI-P3 color gamut support.

The selling point of this particular variant comes from the lid of the laptop, where it houses a circular-shaped, magnetically-attached fragrance dispenser that users can swap to the fragrance of their choosing, which comes in three options. That aside, the laptop comes with a distinct lavender color with unique design cues, and the bundle comes with similarly-themed laptop bag, wireless mouse, and an actual fragrance bottle, among other things.

All things considered, this is still a reasonably-priced laptop despite coming with extra add-ons that certainly will cost extra on top of the laptop itself – it’s just too bad that you probably couldn’t buy one of these outside of China.

Pokdepinion: That certainly works as a conversation starter though.
