When the HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro was launched, I was really intrigued by the hardware. While most of the hardware seemed pretty similar to the HUAWEI P30 Pro, the new 40MP ultra-wide angle camera was definitely a notable upgrade. And it seems like DxOMark found that the HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro touts really impressive photography chops, crowning it the best smartphone they have tested yet.

The HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro scored 121, distancing itself from the previous top dog, the Samsung Galaxy Note10+ 5G by 4 points, while beating the older HUAWEI P30 Pro by 5 points.

DxOMark highlighted the following with the HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro:

The new Mate (30 Pro) does not show any real weaknesses in the camera department and delivers good still image and video quality in most situations. Its photo quality is very good across the board, but its texture/noise balance is truly outstanding, with excellent detail rendering in almost all conditions while keeping image noise at low levels.

They also mentioned that the ultra-wide angle camera’s less than stellar equivalent focal length of 18mm. When the Samsung Galaxy Note10+ 5G is serving up 12mm on the wide end, the HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro definitely comes up a bit short. However DxOMark commended the image quality from the massive 1/1.54″ 3:2 sensor behind the ultra-wide lens.

The HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro also apparently has the best depth estimation thanks to its AI chops and the 3D ToF camera on the back, serving up some really accurate bokeh even when fine hairs are involved.

While the lack of Google’s apps and services out of the box might irk some out there, the fact that you can install it in less than 10 minutes, and enjoy the best camera chops in the market, I guess there’s no denying the appeal of the HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro. Now, just for the price…
