iOS 17: 3rd Party Keyboards Not Showing Up? Here’s How to Fix It
Recently, I encountered a rather perplexing issue related to an iPhone 14 Pro that went through a fresh reset. Specifically, it concerned the disappearance of the globe icon from my iPhone’s keyboard. This was a notable inconvenience because it hindered my ability to switch between third-party keyboards. The globe key was seemingly absent from the iOS keyboard, located near the microphone icon and the space bar. As it turns out, the fix was a lot simpler than I expected.
iOS 17: 3rd Party Keyboards Fix
To regain access to 3rd party keyboards on your iPhone running iOS 17 (specifically to have that globe icon to show up), it is essential to have at least one keyboard activated in your device’s settings. In the event that you have more than one keyboard already activated, like for me when I had two (default iPhone keyboard and Swiftkey), you have to add another one. If you’re not sure how to do that, here’s a step-by-step guide:
- Step 1: Launch the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Step 2: Scroll down and navigate to “General.”
- Step 3: Tap “Keyboards” and subsequently, “Keyboards” once again.
- Step 4: In the next step, tap on “Add New Keyboard.”
- Step 5: Carefully locate the keyboard of your choosing.
- Step 6: Select the keyboard to add it in. If the keyboard was already added prior, select any other keyboard and add that instead.
- Step 7: Next, launch the Messages app and / or WhatsApp on your iPhone.
- Step 8: Tap on any message thread to proceed.
- Step 9: You should be able to see the globe icon on the bottom-left corner, which is used to switch between keyboards.
To my understanding, you may need to restart after taking the above actions, especially if you don’t see the globe icon still. So do not fret if you still don’t see it on your end. It might not be limited to iOS 17 itself, but this issue is present on iOS 17 specifically for me. If it still doesn’t show up after a restart, you might be facing a completely different issue. This should work on both iPhone / iOS 17 and iPad / iPadOS 17.
