OPPO Malaysia has collaborated with Malaysian pop-rock band Insomniacks on an original song titled “See Wider, Live Bigger” to mark the Merdeka and Malaysia Day season. The track is tied to OPPO’s Reno16 Series and is framed around encouraging younger Malaysians to pursue their own paths rather than conform to others’ expectations.
OPPO Collabs With Insomniacks For New Merdeka Song
Insomniacks, formed in Kuala Lumpur, gained widespread recognition through their 2018 single “Pulang,” which charted on Malaysia’s RIM streaming charts for 146 consecutive weeks. The band has since accumulated over 100 million YouTube views and 61 million Spotify streams.
The song’s lyrics follow a progression from feeling constrained by external expectations toward finding clarity and defining one’s own direction. OPPO said the narrative reflects the “See Wider, Live Bigger” philosophy behind the Reno16 Series, framing technology as a tool for enabling people to pursue larger ambitions.
The accompanying music video was shot entirely on the OPPO Reno16 series smartphone and set across Kuala Lumpur, opening with the band riding the KL Hop-On Hop-Off bus past landmarks including the Petronas Twin Towers and Dataran Merdeka. The video follows a group of young Malaysians who spontaneously join the band on the bus, with the journey culminating in a live performance where strangers come together through music.
